Christian Education Classes
Sunday Morning Classes for Children and Youth
Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:30 a.m. for children under the age of 4. The nursery remains open until the end of worship at 12:00 p.m.
Sunday School is held each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for children ages 4 and up. Lessons are Bible-based and are taught using interactive games, dramatic play, word play, crafts and lively discussion. All activities are intended to be balanced and expose the children to many different learning styles. Most importantly, teachers present age-appropriate material and guide the children based on their development. Children are grouped based on age in the following way:
- Pre-K through Third Graders – Rooms 1 and 2;
- Fourth & Fifth Graders – Room 3; and
- Middle School (6th - 8th Grade) – Youth Room.
- High School (9th - 12th Grade) – Room 4
Members of our Middle School and High School classes use class time to explore their faith more deeply and discuss how to live their faith every day. Once a year, the Youth (6th grade & up) assist in worship on Youth Sunday, a very inspiring time for them as well as the congregation. In addition, the Youth also lead Sunday School for the rest of the children on special occasions. The Youth Group also meets separately during the evenings on the third Sunday of each month for fellowship and fun.
If you have questions, please contact Pastor Holly Davis at 703-360-9546.
Discipleship — Adult Sunday School
Heritage provides many opportunities for adults to continue their Christian education, both on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and at other times. Some choices include:
- Bible Study Class held in the Library on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
- Faith & Life Class held in Room 5 on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
- Pastors Class held in the Library on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. (see Events for the latest topics our pastors are exploring)
- Meet, Pray, Love One Another Group in the Library on the first and third Tuesday of each month. This class guides participants to explore how Christ instructed his followers (and us) to love, care, pray and work with one another. Contact the church Office at 703-360-9546 for more information and a study guide.
- Special Sunday School series and speakers throughout the year. Heritage is blessed to have Dr. Bruce Douglass of the Reformed Institute of Metropolitan Washington join us each Fall for a four-week series on the topic of the history of the Reformed tradition.
- Heritage Presbyterian Women (HPW) Rebecca & Dorcas Circles — Rebecca Circle meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the Library, and Dorcas Circle meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at a member’s home. Nursery care is provided for Rebecca Circle upon request. Both circles study the same text provided by PC(U.S.A.). For 2011-12, the circles will study "Confessing the Beatitudes". For more information on either circle, please contact the church Office at 703-360-9546.
