Bikes for Tykes and Teens
As of September 2009, this inspired outreach effort led by Elder Charles Jones has placed 450 refurbished bicycles in the hands of needy children. Fairfax County Police are now providing bicycles to the program and a number of agencies are identifying youngsters who need bicycles. The latest news is that the Salvation Army called Charles asking him for help in providing as many as 104 bicycles to worthy recipients on their Christmas list. Forty-five bikes were provided on December 9th, 2008. The challenge now is to find enough funding to pay for parts, helmets and locks -- about $20 per bicycle.
